Hurricane Isaias Strengthens, Mississippi Prepares for Impact

Hurricane Isaias has strengthened to a major hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Higher gusts are also reported.

While Mississippi is not expecting a direct landfall, officials warn the state will still experience effects from the storm. A hurricane warning and tropical storm warnings are in effect for several counties in southeastern Mississippi, the agency said.

Residents are advised to prepare for heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and storm surge along the coast. Authorities urge residents to monitor updates and stay vigilant as the storm progresses.

There have been no reports of injuries or damages so far, but officials emphasize the importance of staying safe during the storm’s approach.
