Mississippi prepares as Hurricane Isaias Gains Strength, Expected to Make Landfall Soon
Hurricane Isaias has intensified into a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is moving east-northeast at 9 mph and is expected to make landfall late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Most of the storm’s severe impacts are anticipated along the coast, but residents further inland may experience gusty winds, heavy rain, and flash flooding, forecasters said. Emergency officials urged residents to complete preparations on Friday, as impacts could begin as early as the morning.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency recommended checking emergency kits, filling vehicles with gas, and securing outdoor items such as yard debris and tree branches. Officials also advised residents to check on neighbors and stay alert for updates. Mississippi authorities emphasize the importance of safety as the storm approaches.
