Severe Weather Week Focuses on Flash Flood Safety
Emergency officials are emphasizing the dangers of flash flooding during Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Week. They advise residents to be cautious of rapidly rising waters, which can be more hazardous than they appear.
According to authorities, just six inches of fast-moving water can knock an adult off their feet, while 12 inches can carry away a small vehicle. They urge people to never walk or drive through floodwaters and to seek alternate routes when flooding occurs.
The state emergency management agency has released an educational video to help residents recognize flash flood dangers and learn safety measures. Officials stress that awareness and preparedness are crucial to prevent injuries or fatalities during flood events.
