East Union, Myrtle’s Cyber Programs Receive $10,000 Grant from Local Utility and TVA

East Union and Myrtle’s Cyber Foundation programs received $10,000 in grants Thursday from New Albany Light, Gas and Water, in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Each school received $5,000 to support student learning in areas such as 3D modeling and coding platforms.

“Our mission is to serve the people of the Valley. We need to be in those communities, so we reach out to Bill Maddox [CEO of NALGW] and ask him where the needs are in the community,” said Martha Swindle of TVA. The funding aims to strengthen educational programs and community engagement.

Cyber Foundation initiatives have been a key part of the Union County School District’s efforts to prepare students for future careers. East Union coding instructor Stephanie Scott said the funds will help update technology and expand resources for her students. “They find these different jobs in technology that they did not know were out there, and they want to pursue it,” Scott said.

Superintendent Windy Faulkner emphasized the importance of partnerships between schools and local businesses. “When you have community connections, they are always wanting to help out. So, it allows them to support us and allows us to return the favor whenever we can,” Faulkner said.
