Volunteer Efforts Continue in Mississippi to Aid Winter Storm Survivors

Volunteer agencies are actively working in Mississippi to assist residents affected by Winter Storm Fern, which occurred from Jan. 23 to Jan. 27. Groups such as Convoy of Hope, Samaritan’s Purse, Mennonite volunteer electricians, faith-based rebuilding organizations, and Long-Term Recovery Committees are among those providing aid, according to state officials.

Residents still in need of assistance are advised to contact their local county Emergency Management Director for guidance and support. More information is available through local offices and the state’s emergency management resources.

In addition, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has announced that public assistance has been approved for 38 counties impacted by the winter storm. Specifically, 34 counties have received approval for all categories (A-G) of public assistance, including Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, and Claiborne counties, among others.

State officials continue to coordinate recovery efforts to support storm survivors as the community rebuilds from the severe winter weather.
