New Albany police offer Halloween safety tips

The New Albany Police Department shared Halloween safety tips for trick-or-treaters and drivers, urging families to take precautions and motorists to watch for children.

The department advised adults to accompany young children, use sidewalks and crosswalks, carry flashlights or glow sticks and choose costumes that allow children to see and walk safely. It also recommended visiting homes with porch lights on and inspecting candy before children eat it.

Drivers should slow down in residential neighborhoods, avoid distractions and use extra caution at intersections and when backing out of driveways, the department said.
