New Albany Offers Community Support During Ice Storm

Several community centers and churches in New Albany are offering warming stations, hot meals, and support services as ice conditions continue to impact the area, according to local organizers.

The Ladies Building at the Fairgrounds, located at 112 Fairgrounds Spur behind the Extension Building, is open as a warming station. It provides heat, bottled water, restrooms, and cots, with a reminder for visitors to bring bedding or blankets. Eight Days of Hope also offers a hot meal daily at this location.

Victory Church, at 116 N. Denton Road, is operating as a community warming center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The church offers a warm place to rest, device charging, and overnight accommodations for the elderly, parents with children, or those facing emergencies, according to church officials.

Additionally, Terry Young has opened a warming spot at 231 Starlyn Ave., providing relief during the storm. Community members are encouraged to share this information to assist those in need.

Hot meals are also available to all residents. Eight Days of Hope serves lunch at Hillcrest every day at noon, with options for dine-in or takeout. Grace Pointe Church of God at 1512 South Central Avenue offers hot meals from 4 to 6 p.m. and laundry and shower services from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Friday. The church is partnering with OPC Serve to provide aid from Mobile.

On Friday, First Baptist Church will distribute 260 plate lunches starting at 11 a.m. at the Family Life Center, 204 E. Main Street. The meals include ham or turkey with dressing, green beans, and a roll, available on a first-come, first-served basis, with options to pick up for others in need.

Real Life Church is hosting a free pancake breakfast Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. at 1023 Hwy 348. The event features hot pancakes, coffee, and a warm place to sit, rest, and use Wi-Fi. Take-out plates are also available, and everyone is welcome, according to church officials.

Community members are urged to share additional resources or support information in the comments to help others during this emergency. Local churches, volunteers, and first responders continue serving those affected by the storm, officials said.
