The New Albany Fire Department celebrated its 120th anniversary on August 2, 2026, according to department officials. The department was established in 1906, when the city approved two fire companies, Company 1 and Company 2.
These two companies remained active into the 2000s, serving the community for more than a century. In 1927, the department underwent a significant reorganization that changed its operational structure.
Department leaders noted that elements of the 1927 reorganization, along with the original 1906 structure, continue to influence the department’s guidelines and processes today.
