Multiple fire departments respond to structure fire in New Albany area
Southeast Fire Department, along with assistance from New Albany, Ingomar, Center, East Union, and West Union fire crews, responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of County Road 278 around lunchtime Thursday, according to authorities.
First units arriving on scene reported smoke emanating from the eaves and roof. A person at the scene said all occupants evacuated the home, and one family pet escaped. However, several other pets remained inside the structure.
Firefighters entered the home, located the fire, and rescued two pets. One pet was in need of medical attention and was given oxygen by emergency medical responders before being returned to the family. The other pet appeared to be unharmed and was unharmed.
The fire was quickly brought under control, but two rooms sustained significant damage. Heat and smoke affected the entire structure, firefighters said.
Officials expressed satisfaction that the pets were reunited with their owners after the incident.
