Mississippi requests federal disaster aid after winter storm

Mississippi officials have officially requested federal disaster assistance following the winter weather event that occurred from Jan. 23 to Jan. 27, according to the governor’s office.

The governor has sent the request to FEMA and President Joe Biden. This marks a critical step in the process of securing aid for affected residents and communities.

If the request is approved, applications for assistance will open shortly. State officials have pledged to keep residents informed as the process moves forward.

More details about the aid program and eligibility criteria are expected once federal approval is granted.
