Dry conditions across Mississippi are heightening the risk of wildfires, prompting several counties to implement burn bans. The Mississippi Forestry Commission reports that 13 counties are currently under restrictions, with more updates expected as weather conditions evolve.
As of Tuesday, Sunflower County has been added to the list, while the burn ban for Copiah County has been lifted. The affected counties include Lee, Tate, Benton, Sunflower, Marshall, Lafayette, Copiah, Rankin, Jefferson, Covington, Grenada, Franklin, and Jefferson Davis.
The burn bans prohibit all outdoor fires, including campfires, debris burns, and open flames. Authorities emphasize that residents should check the Mississippi Forestry Commission’s website for the latest updates before conducting any outdoor burning.
