New Albany Fire Department responds to over 120 calls during ice storm
During an ice storm that began on Jan. 23 and continued through the following week, the New Albany Fire Department documented more than 120 calls for service, according to department officials.
The department also responded to numerous additional calls for citizen assistance that were not formally documented. Several incidents involved physical injuries to residents, including one firefighter from Myrtle, as well as the loss of homes, personal property, and pets, officials said.
Department representatives expressed gratitude for the dedication of their crews, some of whom remained at stations for multiple days to assist residents. To reach those in need, firefighters used various methods, including fire trucks, squad units, side-by-sides, and on foot, officials said. The department emphasized that reaching residents was their primary goal, and no obstacles prevented them from doing so.
Officials praised their personnel for their commitment, noting that no complaints were heard from the crews during the storm. They also thanked the community for its kindness and support during this challenging time.
