Mississippi Prepares for Incoming Ice Storm with Safety Tips
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) issued a winter weather alert as the National Weather Service predicts an ice storm beginning late Sunday night and lasting through Sunday. The storm is expected to bring freezing rain and hazardous conditions across the state.
Authorities recommend residents follow the 4 P’s of preparedness: check on friends and neighbors, especially vulnerable adults and children; bring pets indoors; insulate pipes and leave water dripping to prevent freezing; and cover or bring inside plants to protect them from the cold, according to MEMA.
MEMA also provided a link to a list of warming shelters for residents seeking refuge from the cold temperatures. The shelters are reported to be open across various locations in Mississippi to assist those in need of shelter during the storm.
