Mississippi Opens Warming Shelters Amid Cold Weather
With dangerously cold temperatures and winter weather affecting much of Mississippi, residents are advised to find shelter to stay warm. Warming centers operated by city and county officials are available across the state, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
Several shelters and safe rooms are open and have been reported to MEMA. In Adams County, a shelter will open on Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. The Adams County Safe Room, located at 323 Liberty Road in Natchez, will welcome service animals and small pets in kennels. The shelter is accessible to the public as weather conditions persist.
In Alcorn County, a warming shelter has also been established, with details available through local officials. Residents are encouraged to check with their local agencies for the latest information on available shelters and safe rooms during this cold snap.
