Mississippi faces cold night with temperatures in teens and single digits

Mississippi is expected to experience another cold night, with temperatures dropping into the teens and some areas reaching single digits, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The agency recommended safety precautions for residents using space heaters. Tips include placing heaters on a solid, flat surface, keeping them at least three feet away from combustible materials, checking cords and plugs for damage, and plugging heaters directly into wall outlets without using extension cords or power strips.

Officials also urged residents to check on family, friends, and neighbors during the cold snap. The emergency management agency advised residents to stay warm and take necessary precautions to avoid cold-related injuries.
