Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Offers Guidance on Damage Reports, Generators, and Shelters
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) urges residents to report damage caused by recent severe winter weather through their official channels. Damage should be reported first to local county emergency management directors, or via MEMA’s self-reporting tool available online, according to agency officials.
MEMA emphasizes that the damage-reporting phase is ongoing and focuses on addressing immediate needs. Individuals with questions about local resources or issues with the reporting tool are advised to contact their county EMA directly, using the contact list provided on MEMA’s website.
The agency also acknowledged widespread power outages and is securing generators to support essential county operations, including hospitals, water treatment facilities, and emergency services. MEMA clarified that these generators are not available for individual or residential use. The focus remains on maintaining critical infrastructure to ensure public safety and service continuity.
Regarding shelter options, MEMA has listed several local shelters currently open, which are managed at the county level. Residents are encouraged to check their county’s social media pages or official websites for the latest information. For example, Adams County opened a shelter on Jan. 24 at 6 p.m., allowing service animals and small pets in kennels. Details for other shelters, such as in Alcorn County, are also available through MEMA’s resources.
