Mississippi EMA Urges Residents to Submit Damage Reports Amid FEMA Review

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is awaiting a decision from FEMA on an Individual Assistance Declaration related to recent storm damage, according to a statement from the agency.

MEMA urges residents who have not yet submitted damage reports to do so through its Self-Report Tool available on its website. The agency emphasizes that these reports are vital for building a case for federal assistance, but they are not applications for aid themselves.

Officials clarified that submitting a damage report does not automatically qualify residents for financial help. The reports are used for data collection to support the federal declaration process.

MEMA also reminds residents that the self-report tool is not a 911 service. In case of immediate, life-threatening emergencies after a storm, residents should call 911. The agency continues to monitor the situation as the federal review progresses.
