Mississippi Continues to Assist Counties Amid Winter Storm

Mississippi counties affected by winter weather continue to request supplies including meals, water, cots, blankets, and generators. As of 8 a.m. Sunday, 41 counties had made 662 requests, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The agency, with help from the National Guard, has distributed more than 275,800 bottles of water, 93,400 meals, nearly 4,700 blankets, close to 2,000 cots, and over 4,300 tarps to impacted areas.

Power outage recovery efforts are ongoing, with thousands of linemen working around the clock. As of 10:30 a.m. Sunday, about 57,600 outages remained. Power is gradually returning as additional lines come back online, and some generators are being relocated to critical sites where needed.

Currently, 53 generators are installed at key infrastructure locations across the state, and the number of outages is expected to decrease as restoration continues.
