Mississippi braces for winter storm with freezing rain and snow

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather update for Mississippi, predicting a weekend of hazardous conditions from Friday through Sunday, Jan. 23-25, 2026.

Most of the state faces a high risk of freezing rain, sleet, or snow, prompting residents to prepare their homes and check on family members. Officials advise staying alert for changing conditions and monitoring local alerts.

In addition to winter precipitation, dangerously cold temperatures are expected to arrive Friday night and persist into early next week, increasing the potential for cold-related hazards.

Authorities recommend staying updated on weather forecasts and taking necessary precautions to stay safe during the storm.
