Mississippi braces for dangerously cold temperatures through Tuesday

Dangerously cold temperatures are expected to persist in Mississippi through at least Tuesday morning, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Residents outdoors are advised to wear multiple layers and cover their hands, feet, and head thoroughly. Officials also warn to watch for signs of hypothermia, including uncontrollable shivering, slurred speech, confusion, drowsiness, fatigue, weak pulse, slow breathing, and loss of coordination.

Anyone in need of warm shelter can visit the MEMA shelter page at https://www.msema.org/get-assistance/disaster-resources/shelters-and-safe-rooms. These shelters are operated by local counties and are reported to MEMA.
