Mississippi advises residents to stay home amid icy conditions

Parts of northern Mississippi are experiencing hazardous icy conditions, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. Officials strongly recommend residents stay at home if possible.

For those who need to go out, the agency offered safety tips for walking and driving. On foot, walk like a penguin with short steps, flat feet, and slow, steady movements. Drivers are advised to slow down, avoid sudden maneuvers, skip cruise control, and leave plenty of space between vehicles.

Ice can be difficult to see and even harder to stop on, officials said. They urged residents to take their time and stay alert if travel is unavoidable. The Mississippi Department of Transportation provides updates on road conditions.

The agency emphasized the importance of staying safe and warm during this winter weather event. Residents are encouraged to follow local updates and exercise caution.
