Ice Conditions Persist in 23 Mississippi Counties, Travel Advisory Remains

As of 9 a.m. Thursday, ice remains on roads and bridges in 23 counties across Mississippi, according to state transportation officials.

The affected counties are Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Washington, and Yalobusha counties.

Emergency travel is still advised only for areas impacted by winter weather. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution if driving is necessary, as road conditions remain hazardous.

Several highway closures are still in effect, including northbound I-55 between Batesville (U.S. 278 east exit 243A) and Como (MS 310 exit 257), as well as both directions of I-22 from Red Banks (Exit 21) to the Tennessee state line, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Officials plan to update the public with the latest information on road closures. Travelers are encouraged to use the MDOT Traffic App or visit MDOTtraffic.com for real-time roadway conditions.
